Early Career
Born in Australia, the racing driver began his career competing in local championships in the mid-1980s. In 1988, he moved to Europe and participated in the Formula Vauxhall series.
European Success
The following year, he became the British Formula 3 champion and won the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. These achievements paved the way for his Formula 1 debut in 1990 with the Brabham team.
Brief Formula 1 Stint
Despite not scoring any points and qualifying for only half of the races, the driver managed to finish 15th once during the season. In 1992, he switched to sports car racing, where he secured one victory.
Return to Formula 1
In 1994, he rejoined Formula 1 with the Simtek team. However, he again failed to score points. He left Formula 1 after the 1995 season and moved to touring car racing.
Japanese GT Championship Success
In 1996, he won the Japanese GT Championship driving a McLaren F1 GTR.
ALMS Triumphs
From 1999 onward, he raced in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). In 2009, he reached the pinnacle of his career by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the ALMS LMP1 Championship.
