Damon Hill was born on September 17, 1960, in London, to the family of Formula One World Champion Graham Hill. Growing up, Damon and his two sisters, Samantha and Bridgett, were constantly surrounded by the roar of engines as their father spent most of the year on race tracks. At the age of five, Damon was already behind the wheel, though he was more drawn to motorcycles unlike his father. Despite his mother's concerns, Damon insisted on racing motorcycles and his father rewarded him with a "Honda" motorcycle as a gift for his good grades.
Tragedy struck when Damon was 15, as his father died in a plane crash. This left the Hill family with a huge bill to pay to the relatives of the other passengers. Damon and his sisters were forced to leave their private school and move. Damon found solace in racing motorcycles and playing guitar in a rock band called "Sex, Hitler, and Hormones."
After working as a courier in a company in South London, Damon started participating in "Trial" and circuit car racing. In 1981, he met his future wife, Georgie. Eddie Jordan called Damon's marriage the "biggest victory of Hill Jr." In 1984, Damon's career took a turning point as he won the English motorcycle racing series on a "Yamaha TZ350" and later won his first Formula Ford 1600 race. Over the following years, Damon continued to climb the racing hierarchy, finishing third in the British Formula Three Championship in 1985.
To finance his racing career, Damon relied on his father's name and old family friends. For instance, George Harrison, a member of the famous "Liverpool Four" band, and now a millionaire and co-owner of a major record company, always supported Damon and attended his races. However, Damon's racing career still required substantial funds. His breakthrough came in 1993 when he joined the Williams team as a teammate to Alain Prost. Damon's first win in Formula One came in Hungary, and he went on to win the championship in 1996.
After leaving Williams, Damon joined the Jordan team for the 1997 season. Despite a difficult start, he achieved a victory in Belgium and helped the team secure fourth place in the championship. In 1999, Damon announced his retirement from Formula One after struggling in the early races of the season. He expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in his career and promised to dedicate more time to his family and fans.
