Biography of David Brandes

David Brandes is a successful German music producer and a former student of Tony Hendrik. He was born on December 9, 1968, in Basel, Switzerland. Brandes developed a passion for singing at a very young age, starting from the age of three. At the age of 13, he formed his own band, which marked the beginning of his musical career.

Early Career

In the late 1980s, David Brandes became a member of the quartet "Xanadu," which represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest. The group secured the second place in the qualifying round in 1989 with the song "Ein Traum Fur Diese Welt." Another prominent member of the quartet was the talented vocalist Lyane Leigh, with whom Brandes collaborated extensively after the breakup of "Xanadu."

E-rotic and Bros Team

In 1994, Brandes formed the Eurodance duo "E-rotic," with Lyane Leigh and Raz-Ma-Taz (Richard Michael Smith). Their debut single, "Max, Don't Have Sex With Your Ex," brought them well-deserved fame and popularity. The duo released their first album, "Sex Affairs," the following year. Despite frequent changes in the lineup, Brandes and Leigh remained the core vocalists of the group.

During the mid-1990s, David Brandes, along with John O'Flynn, Felix Gauder, and Domenico Labarille, formed a highly successful Eurodance team known as "Bros Team." They named themselves after Brandes' recording company, "Bros Music," which he established in a small Alpine town on the German-Swiss border.

Later Career

In 1997, Brandes composed several solo songs for former "Modern Talking" member Thomas Anders, although these songs were never released due to the group's reunion. In the late 1990s, Brandes worked as a producer and songwriter for the albums "Back" (1998) and "... Continued" (1999) by the group "Bad Boys Blue." However, due to legal disputes with Tony Hendrik, he had to discontinue his collaboration with the group.

In 1999, David Brandes produced Fancy's album "D.I.S.C.O.," which he later admitted was an unsuccessful joint project that did not bring him much satisfaction. In 2002, after parting ways with "Coconut Records," "Bad Boys Blue" joined "Bros Music," and David Brandes became their producer.

Success and Controversies

Brandes reached the peak of his success in the early 2000s when the rock group "Vanilla Ninja" from Estonia, managed by him, became very popular in German-speaking countries. However, in the spring of 2005, a scandal erupted in the media, accusing Brandes of manipulating music charts by artificially boosting sales. As a result, several albums by "Vanilla Ninja," Gracia, and "Virus Incorporated" were excluded from the charts. Despite the scandal, two projects from "Bros Music" participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005. Gracia represented Germany, while "Vanilla Ninja" represented Switzerland.
