Biography of David Einhorn
David Einhorn is an American hedge fund manager and philanthropist. He is the founder and president of the value-oriented hedge fund 'Greenlight Capital'. The company started in 1996 with a capital of $900,000 and generates a 20% annual profit for its investors.

Einhorn is also the chairman of the reinsurance company 'Greenlight Capital Re, Ltd', located in the Cayman Islands, and is its majority shareholder. From March 2006 to March 2007, Einhorn served as a director of the financial corporation 'New Century', a major mortgage lender. 'Greenlight Capital' owned 6.3% of the shares of 'New Century' when Einhorn stepped down from the board.

Although a collective lawsuit was filed against 13 former directors and top management representatives of 'New Century', no specific allegations were made against Einhorn, and by 2010, his name was no longer involved in the case.
David Einhorn was born on November 20, 1968, in a Jewish family in New Jersey. When he was seven, he moved with his family to Wisconsin. In 1987, Einhorn graduated from high school in Glendale, Wisconsin. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in management from Cornell University in 1991.
Einhorn has made significant contributions to 'The Michael J. Fox Foundation', a charitable fund dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. In 2006, he ranked 18th in the prestigious poker tournament series, the 'World Series of Poker', and donated his winnings of $650,000 to the foundation.
He is also involved in the leadership of the charitable organization 'Robin Hood Foundation', which assists the impoverished in New York City, as well as several other charitable funds in the New York area. In 2012, Einhorn again donated his poker winnings, this time over $4 million, to the non-profit organization 'City Year'.
Einhorn resides in Westchester County, New York, with his wife Cheryl Strauss Einhorn and their three children. Together with his wife, he is a major supporter of the Republican Party and in the 2012 United States presidential election, they paid for dozens of 'anonymous' billboards in the Milwaukee area and two cities in Ohio, warning residents about the consequences of fraudulent actions during the elections. However, under pressure from liberal groups, the billboards were taken down.
On May 26, 2011, representatives of the 'New York Mets' announced that Einhorn had agreed to purchase a minority stake in the professional baseball club for $200 million. Einhorn had the opportunity to acquire a controlling stake in the 'Mets' after three years, during which the current owners, Fred Wilpon and his family, were unable to meet their financial obligations. On September 1, 2011, the club announced the completion of negotiations for the sale of shares to Einhorn.
In January 2012, the British Financial Services Authority (FSA) fined Einhorn and 'Greenlight Capital' $11.2 million for insider trading. Einhorn stated that the magnitude of such a fine goes against the law, but still said he would rather pay than "continue the tough fight." Einhorn was ranked second on the list of those whom the FSA ordered to pay astronomical fines.
