Early Life and Education
Albert David Hedison Jr. was born on May 20, 1927, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Armenian immigrant parents. His father, Albert David Hedison Sr. (originally Khedishian), owned a jewelry store, and his mother was Rose Boghosian. Hedison received his higher education at Brown University before relocating to New York City, where he became a member of the Actors Studio.
Television and Film Debut
Hedison first appeared on television in a minor role in an episode of the anthology series "Kraft Television Theatre" in 1955. Two years later, he made his big-screen debut in the film "Beneath Us the Enemy," playing a notable role as a lieutenant.
Adopting the Stage Name
In 1959, the actor adopted the stage name David Hedison, consisting of his middle name and last name, and used it throughout the remainder of his career until 2005. Hedison had previously been credited as Al Hedison.
Felix Leiter in the Bond Franchise
Hedison holds the distinction of being the first actor in the James Bond franchise to portray Felix Leiter in multiple films (1973 and 1989). Many years later, Jeffrey Wright became the second actor to do so (2006 and 2008).
Marriage and Family
On June 29, 1968, David Hedison married Bridget. They had two children: Serena and Alexandra (born 1969), who became a renowned photographer and actress.
