Early Life and Education

David Held was born into an industrialist family in the United Kingdom, where he spent much of his childhood. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Manchester. After completing his doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge.

Academic Career

Held held the prestigious position of Graham Wallas Professor of Political Science and co-directed the Centre for the Study of Global Governance at the London School of Economics. Along with Daniele Archibugi, Held played a significant role in developing cosmopolitanism and cosmopolitan democracy.

In March 2011, Held's name became linked to the London School of Economics and Gaddafi affair. He had served as an advisor to Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who earned a doctorate from the London School of Economics in 2008.
