Childhood and Early Life

David Horovitch was born in London, England, on August 11, 1945, to Maurice Horovitch, a childcare worker, and Alice Mary, a teacher. He attended private schools in Hertfordshire and showed an early interest in acting, reading all of William Shakespeare's plays. Horovitch's first stage role came at the age of six, playing a priest in a production of "The House That Jack Built." He studied theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Theatrical Career

Horovitch made his stage debut in 1966 as a priest in "Saint Joan" at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. He worked with theatre companies in Nottingham and Leicester and later appeared in various productions in London.

Television and Film

Horovitch began his screen career with television appearances in series such as "The Avengers" and "The Professionals." His breakthrough came in 1984 when he was cast as Detective Inspector Slack in the first television adaptation of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple mysteries. Horovitch appeared in five episodes, earning critical acclaim for his portrayal of the reserved and ambitious police officer. He went on to appear in crime dramas such as "Inspector Morse," "Poirot," and "Midsomer Murders."

Notable Film Roles

In 2000, Horovitch portrayed Dr. Pavlov in Disney's "102 Dalmatians." He also played Dr. Price in the drama "Mr. Turner" and Colonel Square in the sitcom "Dad's Army."

Personal Life

Horovitch was married to Jane Roberts from 1967 to 1985, and they had two sons, Tom and Francis. After their divorce, he remained single, focusing on his career and his hobbies, which included cricket, reading, and walking. In 2007, Horovitch's career was shaken by the tragic death of his son in India.

Current Activities

Despite his advanced age, Horovitch remains active and has a YouTube channel where he reads Shakespeare's sonnets. He also engages with fans on social media and hopes to reach a younger audience through his role in "House of the Dragon."

In 2022, Horovitch joined the cast of the HBO prequel series "House of the Dragon" as Grand Maester Mellos, an advisor to King Viserys. The series, set 200 years before "Game of Thrones," follows the events leading up to a civil war within the Targaryen dynasty.
