Early Life
David Horowitz was born on January 10, 1939, in Forest Hills, Queens, New York, to Jewish parents, Phil and Blanche Horowitz. Both teachers, Phil taught English and Blanche stenography. They were members of the American Communist Party and supporters of Joseph Stalin, but they left the party in 1956 after Nikita Khrushchev's speech exposing Stalin's crimes.
Education and Early Career
David Horowitz earned his bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1959 and his master's degree in English literature from the University of California, Berkeley. In the early 1960s, Horowitz lived in London and worked for the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation.
Political Activism
In his youth, Horowitz was a prominent figure in the New Left movement. However, around 1985, he shifted his political stance and became a conservative. He founded and chairs the David Horowitz Freedom Center and publishes FrontPage Magazine, where Yaakov Glazov serves as the managing editor.
