David Rudisha Biography
David Rudisha, whose full name is David Lekuta Rudisha, was born in 1988 in Kilgoris, Rift Valley Province, Kenya. He attended St. Francis and Kimuron Secondary School in Iten, a city known for its world-renowned track and field athletes. Initially competing in the 400-meter distance, Rudisha decided to try his hand at the 800 meters upon the advice of his coach, Colm O'Connell. In 2006, he became the junior world champion in the 800 meters.

Early Success
In 2008, Rudisha won the gold medal at the Addis Ababa African Championships, earning him a spot on the Kenyan team for the 2009 World Athletics Championships, where he reached the semifinals. Later that year, he emerged victorious at the IAAF Grand Prix in Rieti, Italy, setting a new record and surpassing Sammy Koskei's record set 25 years prior.

Record-Breaking Achievements
In 2010, Rudisha secured first place at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games, which had become part of the IAAF Diamond League. Shortly after, he broke Sebastian Coe's 31-year-old record, becoming the first athlete to do so. In July of the same year, Rudisha won the 800-meter race at the KBC Night of Athletics in Belgium, earning him the second spot in the world rankings for the distance. A month later, he set a new world record in the 800 meters at the IAAF World Challenge in Berlin, Germany.

Athlete of the Year
Rudisha's dominance continued as he consistently improved his time. In November 2010, he was awarded the title of "IAAF World Athlete of the Year," making him the youngest recipient of the prestigious award in history.

Athletic Family Legacy
David Rudisha comes from a family with a strong athletic background. His father, Daniel Rudisha, was a silver medalist in the 4x400 relay at the 1968 Olympics. His mother, Naomi Rudisha, is a multiple-time champion in the 400-meter hurdles.
