Biography of David Tonoyan

David Tonoyan is an Armenian military and political figure who has served as the First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia. He has had a long and distinguished career in both the military and government sectors.

Early Life and Education

Tonoyan was born and raised in Armenia. After completing his secondary education, he joined the Soviet Union's armed forces in 1986, where he served until 1988. Following his military service, Tonoyan enrolled at Yerevan State University and pursued his studies from 1988 to 1991.

Military and Diplomatic Career

In 1992, Tonoyan began his service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, where he worked until 1994 as the head of the department in the Military Police Division. Seeking further education, Tonoyan attended the Military-Diplomatic Academy in Moscow from 1995 to 1997.

Tonoyan's career took a significant turn in 1997 when he joined the Ministry of Defense of Armenia as part of the Department of External Relations and International Cooperation. From 1998 to 2004, he held various positions within the NATO Allied Command Operations. Tonoyan served as the representative of the Armenian Armed Forces to NATO from 2004 to 2007.

Ministry of Defense Roles

In 2007, Tonoyan was appointed as the Chief of the Department of International Military Cooperation and Defense Programs at the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. He continued his ascent through the ranks and became the head of the Defense Policy Department in 2009.

Since 2010, Tonoyan has held the position of First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, playing a crucial role in the country's defense and security matters.

Personal Life and Awards

David Tonoyan is married and has two children. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the defense and security of Armenia. In 2010, Tonoyan was awarded the rank of State Counsellor of the 2nd class of the Special Civil Service of Armenia. He has also been decorated with medals such as "For Merit to the Homeland" of the 1st and 2nd degrees, "Andranik Ozanian," "Vazgen Sarkisian," and "For Impeccable Service" of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degrees.
