Biography of David Wright Miliband

David Wright Miliband was born in London in 1965 to a family of Jewish immigrants from the Warsaw Jewish quarter. His father, Ralph, was a Marxist theorist and had served in the Red Army during the armed conflict between Soviet Russia and Poland in the early 1920s. Miliband spent his childhood and youth in London, Leeds, and Boston, Massachusetts.

He attended Corpus Christi College at Oxford University, where he studied philosophy, politics, and economics. He also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in politics. Since 1994, Miliband has worked in the shadow cabinet of the Labour Party under the chairmanship of Tony Blair.

In 2002, he became the Minister of State for Education (a position equivalent to a deputy minister), and later became a Minister of State in the Blair Cabinet. On May 5, 2006, following changes in the government, Miliband was appointed as the Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Miliband did not participate in the decision to invade Iraq. His wife, Louise, is a violinist in the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2004, they adopted a child in the United States, and they do not have any biological children of their own.
