Debralee Scott: A Biography

Debralee Scott, an American actress, gained popularity for her role as Rosalie 'Hotsy' Totsy in the American sitcom 'Welcome Back, Kotter'. She was born on April 2, 1953, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, USA, where she grew up. Later, she lived in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where she was a cheerleader.

Early Acting Career

Debralee Scott played her first role soon after turning 18, portraying the dead body of Anne-Marie Deacon in Don Siegel's crime action film 'Dirty Harry' in 1971. At the age of 22, she gained recognition as a member of the ensemble cast of the series 'Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman', where she played the role of Mary's sister, Cathy Shumway.

Rise to Fame

In the first season of the sitcom 'Welcome Back, Kotter', Scott was cast as Rosalie 'Hotsy' Totsy. She also played the role of Angie's sister, Mary Falco, in the sitcom 'Angie'. Scott's film career included appearances in George Lucas' comedy 'American Graffiti' in 1973 and the action film 'Earthquake' in 1974, where she specifically filmed additional scenes for the extended television version released in 1976.

Later Career and Personal Life

Scott auditioned for the role of Marty in the musical film 'Grease', but the role eventually went to the lesser-known Didi Conn. Continuing to act, she appeared in the first installment of the 'Police Academy' franchise and one of its sequels, 'Police Academy 3: Back in Training'. In 2000, Debralee Scott, along with other former cast members of 'Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman', was inducted into the Museum of Television and Radio's Hall of Fame in Beverly Hills.

In 2001, her fiancé, police officer John Dennis Levy, representing port authorities, died during the devastating terrorist attacks on US soil. In 2005, Scott moved from Brooklyn, New York, to Amelia Island, Florida, to care for her ailing older sister, Carol Ann. Her other older sister, Geraldine Scott, is a talent manager in Los Angeles. Shortly after arriving in Florida, Debralee Scott fell seriously ill and slipped into a coma for several days. When she regained consciousness and was asked where she was, the actress confidently replied, "Of course, in the hospital." As the doctors couldn't determine the cause of her coma, Scott left the hospital walls in good spirits after two days. However, three days later, on April 5, 2005, she went to take a nap and never woke up. Despite an autopsy, the cause of Scott's death remained undetermined. Her body was cremated. On July 13, 2006, her sister Carol Ann passed away from heart failure.
