Early Life and Influences
Daniel "Dee" Snider was born on March 15, 1955, in Astoria, Queens, New York City. From a young age, music played a significant role in his life. Snider sang in his church choir and participated in various school choruses. By the eighth grade, he had joined a teenage rock band.
Joining Twisted Sister
In 1976, Snider joined the heavy metal band Twisted Sister. His contributions as the band's primary songwriter and charismatic frontman brought them widespread success. Snider's signature style, which included a heavily painted face, long, tangled white hair, and bold makeup, became an iconic rock image.

During the mid-1980s, Twisted Sister released several successful albums, including "Under the Blade," "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll," "Stay Hungry," and "Come Out and Play." However, their lyrics drew controversy from the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), who accused the band of promoting violence and obscenity. Snider defended his work and denied any malicious intent.
Post-Twisted Sister Projects
In 1987, Twisted Sister disbanded. Snider embarked on solo projects, founding the bands Desperado and Widowmaker. He also became a popular radio DJ, focusing on heavy metal music. In addition, Snider authored the 1987 book "Dee Snider's Teenage Survival Guide."
