Biography of Delphine Forest
Delphine Forest, an actress, was born on August 28, 1966, in Paris. Her grandmother was a Russian immigrant who left Russia after the 1917 revolution, so Delphine grew up familiar with the Russian language.
Early Career
In 1989, she played the role of Marina Mnishek in Andrey Zvyagintsev's film-opera "Boris Godunov" (Galina Vishnevskaya provided the vocals for her in this film). In 1990, she appeared on the set of "Quiet Flows the Don," a joint Russian-Italian adaptation of the novel of the same name by Sholokhov, aimed at Western audiences. Initially, Delphine was supposed to play Darya, but the role eventually went to Natalya Andreychenko. During a conversation with Forest, the director of the film, Sergey Bondarchuk, was surprised that she spoke Russian well. Perhaps this impressed him, and he approved her for the leading role of Aksinya Astakhova. However, on the set, actors (including Russian actors) spoke in English. After reading the novel, Delphine began her work. During the filming, she followed Bondarchuk closely, as he taught her how to properly carry a yoke and lift her skirt, to avoid getting it dirty. What struck her the most in Russia was the absence of snow; the winter that year was so warm that artificial snow had to be used for the filming. The work on the multipart film lasted for over a year, but problems arose before the start of editing. In 1993, the producer, Rispoli, was unable to repay the loan taken for the film, and the bank-creditor, according to the terms of the agreement, seized all the filmed material as collateral. A year later, the director passed away in Moscow, without completing the film.
Career in the 90s
In the 90s, Delphine worked a lot on television but also appeared in films. In 1992, she starred in the erotic comedy "Joys of Intimate Life" by Cristina Comencini, the daughter of the famous Italian director Luigi Comencini. In 2004, she moved to Moscow, Russia, where she received roles in several TV series. For example, in 2006, she appeared in the series "Prisoners of the Moon." Around the same time, the "First Channel," with the involvement of the top management of Russia, acquired the rights to "Quiet Flows the Don," and Sergey Bondarchuk's son, Fedor, became the director of the television version.
