Denise Lee Richards, an American actress, was born on February 17, 1972, in Downers Grove, Illinois. She spent her quiet childhood in this town until the age of 15 when she, along with her father, mother, and younger sister, moved to Oceanside, a coastal city in San Diego. Her father started a successful business in the area, becoming the owner of a chain of mini-bars and coffee shops, although he had to leave a prestigious position at a major telephone company to do so. With their comfortable lifestyle, the girls lacked nothing, but they felt that there was something missing in their young lives. This led Denise and her sister to develop a passion for cinema. However, they never dreamed of becoming actresses, possibly due to low self-esteem. Denise lacked confidence in herself, as her classmates often made fun of her. Because of her clumsiness and full lips, her classmates gave her the nickname "Fish Lips." The blonde left-hander had to deal with the mockery and secretly fell in love with her idol, John Travolta.
