Early Life and Career (Заголовок 2)
John Watson, an Irish racing driver, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. His racing career began in saloon car championships, where he won the Formula Ford Festival in 1976.
Formula 3 and Formula 2 (Заголовок 2)
In 1977, Watson transitioned to the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) Formula 3 Championship, claiming the title in his debut season. The following year, he moved to Formula 2, securing two race victories. He also made his Formula 1 debut during this period, starting six races and scoring his first championship point at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Formula 1 (Заголовок 2)
Watson continued to compete in both Formula 1 and Formula 2 in 1979. In 1980, he joined the Tyrrell team for his first full season in Formula 1, finishing 11th in the championship with six points. He had a disappointing season with March the following year.
In 1982, Watson replaced Carlos Reutemann at the Williams team and scored points on five occasions. He remained with Williams until 1983, before switching to the CART championship.

Watson retired from racing in the late 1980s and embarked on a career as a television commentator. He also competed in sports car racing during this period. Watson currently resides in the United States and holds American citizenship.
