Early Life and Career

Desiree Meher was born in Cadiz, Spain in 1968, and she moved to London in 1992. She took her first steps in the fashion industry in Germany and the United Kingdom. In 1995, Meher founded her own label and presented her first collection to the public for the Autumn-Winter 1997 season. She quickly achieved success, with one of her most characteristic techniques being the transformation of recycled cashmere scraps into unique 'patchwork' tops. It was through these cashmere sweaters, which were patchwork and adorned with geometric patterns, that 'Fake London' became renowned. Meher's designs are known for their beauty and practicality, and her exceptional marketing abilities have contributed to the impressive success of the project. Currently, the Meher label is known all over the world. Her clothing is sold in over 200 retail stores worldwide, and prominent companies such as 'Browns', 'Selfridges', 'Harrods', 'Neiman Marcus', and 'Barneys' collaborate with Meher.

Expansion and Collaboration

Desiree Meher's label extends beyond women's clothing as she also produces menswear. Recently, an impressive retrospective of 'Fake London' was held at the 'Stazione Leopolda' in Florence. The exhibition spanned across 10 rooms, each decorated in a distinct style related to a different aspect of the label's creativity. 'Fake London' actively collaborates with a number of outstanding professionals. Meher mentioned that the artist Tony Husband, primarily known for his comics and caricatures published in various publications, contributed to some of her creations. Damien Hirst, a member of the renowned group 'Young British Artists' and one of the most successful contemporary artists commercially, also assisted Meher. Hirst gained fame primarily for his works on the theme of death, but for the 'Fake London' label, he offered more abstract and less provocative pieces.
