Biography of Deva Premal
Deva Premal is a musician and renowned New Age vocalist. Born in Germany in 1970, she comes from a creatively gifted family, with her father being a mystic artist and her mother a musician. From a young age, Deva learned to play the violin, piano, and took vocal lessons. At the age of five, she was already publicly performing the powerful Gayatri Mantra.
Early Influences
The Gayatri Mantra held a special place in Deva's heart due to her father singing it to her for nine months while she was in her mother's womb. After her birth, they continued to chant it together every day for the next ten years, making it an invaluable part of her life. However, Deva eventually stopped singing it, only to rediscover it later in life through a beautiful rendition performed by her friends in London. This rekindled her connection to the mantra, making it her own rather than just a gift from her parents.
Introduction to Meditation
Meditation became an integral part of Deva's life at an early age thanks to her father. He devised exercises for Deva and her sister Ilonka to cultivate greater mindfulness in each moment. One exercise involved chanting the mantra "OM" every time they placed something on a table, while another involved saying "RAM" when turning on the lights. These practices were carried out for many years, and though Deva eventually stopped, she now realizes their immense value and feels immense gratitude towards her father.
Musical Journey and Success
While Deva explored various healing modalities such as Shiatsu, reflexology, craniosacral therapy, and massage, music always remained her first love. Her singing reflects influences from different traditions, yet she never sought to imitate classical styles. According to Deva, it all flows naturally for her as if she had heard this music in a past life.
Over the years, Deva Premal has released several albums, including "The Essence," "Love is Space," "Embrace," and "Dakshina," which have topped the charts in the New Age genre and have become favorites in yoga studios and meditation centers worldwide. Her most recent album, "The Moola Mantra," reached number one on Amazon.com within a few days of its release.
Collaboration with Miten
Deva Premal and Miten first met in India in the ashram of the great mystic Osho. Their music grew out of their love for their teacher and reflects the deep meditation experience they have cultivated over the years. Since 1991, the couple has lived and worked together, performing approximately 50 concerts around the world each year. Their inspiration and life purpose are to provide people all over the planet with the opportunity to come together in celebration and meditation. They have sold over 800,000 albums worldwide since 1993, with their music being available in more than 50 countries.
Recognition in Russia
In Russia, Deva Premal's first three albums, "Dakshina," "Songs For the Inner Lover," and "The Essence," were released on August 28, 2008. They were followed by albums such as "Embrace," "The Moola Mantra," and "The Soul in Wonder."
