Life and Early Career
Georgian filmmaker Tengiz Abuladze was born in the village of Islari, Georgia, in the Odzhnikidze (Kharagauli) district of the Georgian SSR. His early education included studies at the Tbilisi Medical Institute from 1941 to 1944.
Education and Theatrical Work
Abuladze's passion for filmmaking led him to pursue a degree in directing from the Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi Theater Institute, which he completed in 1953. Subsequently, he served as a director at the Lado Meskhishvili Kutaisi Drama Theater.
Filmmaking at "Gruzia-Film"
In 1957, Abuladze joined the "Gruzia-Film" studio as a director. He embarked on a prolific career, directing several notable films:
