Biography of David Byrne

David Byrne, the leader of the band Talking Heads, was born on May 14, 1952 in Dumbarton, Scotland. When he was two years old, he moved to Canada with his parents, who were offered lucrative jobs there. At the age of nine, David and his family relocated to the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland.

In September 1970, after completing high school, David Byrne enrolled in the Rhode Island School of Design, where he met Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth. Later, David embarked on a journey across the United States. Upon his return to Baltimore, he met a guy named Mark Kehoe, and together they formed a duo called "Bizadi." In the duo, David sang and played the violin, while Mark Kehoe played the accordion and provided vocals. Bizadi existed from February 1971 to March 1972, and their repertoire mainly consisted of old classical compositions such as "The Glory of Love" and "April Showers," as well as many songs by Frank Sinatra.

After the duo disbanded, Mark Kehoe pursued underground video work, while David Byrne traveled to Rhode Island to visit his friends Chris and Tina. Later, David became the vocalist and guitarist of Talking Heads, writing the majority of the band's songs. In 1981, he embarked on a solo career, which eventually led to the dissolution of Talking Heads in 1991.

In 2005, David Byrne adapted an abandoned paint factory called "Fargfabriken" in Stockholm for the performance of his musical compositions. To utilize the building's structural elements for sound production, Byrne modified an old organ that operated using wooden bellows. Some keys and pedals of the modified organ were connected to dozens of transparent plastic tubes, through which air was blown to create wind noises and whistling sounds. Special cables connected other keys to hammers that struck hollow metal columns in the factory building, producing vibrations and humming sounds of varying pitch.

In 2009, Byrne released a book titled "Bicycle Diaries," in which he shares his observations of life in different cities and offers thoughts on how to make the world a better place.
