Jayavarman VII: A Khmer Monarch

Jayavarman VII ascended to the throne of the Khmer Empire as emperor from 1150 to 1160. Born as a cousin to the renowned Survarman II, Jayavarman's rule was characterized by limitations in power and control over a restricted territory, as suggested by historian Claude Jacques.

Military Campaigns

Despite his limited authority, Jayavarman VII played an active role in military campaigns. In 1160, he participated in a military expedition against the Chams, led by his own son. This campaign demonstrated his commitment to defending the Khmer Empire and expanding its influence.

Legacy and Posthumous Name

Jayavarman VII's legacy extends beyond his military endeavors. He is remembered for his contributions to the Khmer culture, religion, and infrastructure. Upon his death, he was bestowed with the posthumous name Paramavisnulokapada, a testament to his esteemed status.
