Didier, the Boy with a Melanocytic Virus

Didier was born in the rural Colombian countryside with a congenital melanocytic virus. This condition causes a birthmark to grow at an incredibly rapid rate, covering the body. In Didier's case, the birthmark became so large that it covered his entire back. His peers cruelly called him "the boy turtle" because of the resemblance of his birthmark to a turtle's shell.

A Child Shunned

Locals believed that Didier was conceived during an eclipse, labeling him "the devil's work." As a result, they forbade him from interacting with other children and barred him from attending the local school.

A Life-Changing Surgery

When British surgeon Neil Bulstrode learned of Didier's plight, he traveled to Bogotá and performed surgery on the child, successfully removing the entire birthmark. The operation was a complete success, and Didier was finally able to attend school and live a normal and fulfilling life.
