Early Life and Career
Didier Zokora, an Ivorian footballer, was born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. His football journey began at the ASEC Mimosas academy in his home country. In 2000, he embarked on an international adventure, joining Belgian club KRC Genk.
Belgian Success with Genk
Zokora played a pivotal role in Genk's Belgian First Division victory during the 2001/02 season. Under the guidance of coach Sef Vergoossen and with star striker Wesley Sonck leading the line, Genk achieved league supremacy.
Move to France and England
In the summer of 2004, Zokora made a transfer to French club AS Saint-Étienne. Two years later, he moved to the Premier League, signing for Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of €8.2 million.
International Dominance
Zokora established himself as a key player for the Côte d'Ivoire national team. His impressive performances at the 2006 FIFA World Cup sparked interest from several top English clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal. However, Zokora remained loyal to Tottenham.
Trophy Success
Zokora's club career saw him lift trophies in several countries. He won the EFL Cup with Tottenham Hotspur in 2008, the Copa del Rey with Sevilla FC in 2010, and was a runner-up in the Africa Cup of Nations with Côte d'Ivoire twice (2006 and 2012).
