Early Life and Career at Porto
Rubén Neves, a Portuguese footballer, spent his formative years in the Porto FC academy, joining at the tender age of eight. He progressed through the club's youth ranks and briefly played for Padroense FC's youth team.
Debut with the First Team
In 2014, Neves made his first-team debut for Porto, replacing the injured Nigerian midfielder Mikel Agu during the preseason. He impressed Coach Julen Lopetegui, who included him in the starting lineup for the opening game of the Primeira Liga against Marítimo. Neves repaid his coach's faith by scoring a goal.
Historical Achievement
Neves etched his name in football history on October 20, 2015, when he became the youngest captain in UEFA Champions League history. He led his team onto the pitch against Maccabi Tel Aviv at 18 years and 221 days old.
Move to Wolverhampton Wanderers
In July 2017, Neves made a high-profile move to Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee of £17 million, a record for the club at the time. He signed a five-year contract.
