Early Life and Musical Influences

Born in Switzerland, Dieter Moebius grew up immersed in classical music thanks to his mother's love for the genre and her skills as a pianist. However, his musical tastes shifted towards the rock-and-roll rhythms of Chuck Berry and the experimental sounds of the Velvet Underground.

Krautrock and Kluster

Moebius's passion for art led him to Belgium and Germany, where he encountered Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Conrad Schnitzler. Together, they formed the krautrock band Kluster in 1969, releasing their debut album, "Klopfzeichen," in 1970.

From Kluster to Cluster

After Schnitzler's departure from Kluster, Moebius and Roedelius continued as a duo, renaming the band Cluster. They experimented with different styles, releasing 15 albums over the following decades that showcased their mastery of ambient electronica. Their collaborations with Brian Eno cemented their reputation as pioneers of the genre.
