Early Life and Education
Dilbar Kambarova was born on April 27, 1957, in Margilan, Uzbekistan. Growing up in a family of doctors, she initially aspired to a career in Oriental studies. However, fate took a turn during a summer vacation in the early 1970s.
Acting Career
At the age of 14, Kambarova was spotted by Ali Khamraev, a director casting for his upcoming film "Without Fear." Khamraev was captivated by her delicate and bird-like features, and he immediately signed her up for the role of Kumri, a young woman who defied tradition and paid the ultimate price for her actions.
Khamraev's subsequent adventure film, "The Seventh Bullet," propelled Kambarova into the spotlight. She played the lead role, effortlessly portraying the dualities of a child and a woman. Impressed by her talent, Khamraev dubbed her the "actress of the first take."
In high school, Kambarova continued to star in films, honing her craft before pursuing formal education. She initially enrolled in the Tashkent Institute of Theater and Art, later transferring to the prestigious VGIK in Moscow. Her mentor was renowned director Sergei Gerasimov, under whose guidance she blossomed as an actress.
Rise to Stardom
Kambarova's most famous role came in the blockbuster action film "Pirates of the 20th Century," where she played the beautiful islander, Maar. The film became a huge box-office success, cementing her status as a national star.
In the following years, Kambarova continued to challenge herself with diverse roles. She played a bodyguard in "Secrets of Madame Wong," a young woman struggling for independence in "In the Night of Lunar Eclipse," and a seductive performer in "A Man and No Weapon."
Personal Life
Kambarova met her future husband, Vladimir Khotinenko, on the set of "In the Night of Lunar Eclipse." Despite warnings from those around her, Kambarova fell for the budding director's persistence and charm. They married and welcomed a daughter, Polina, but their marriage was short-lived.
Khotinenko's dedication to his work strained their relationship, leading to their separation. After divorcing, Kambarova briefly dated actor Igor Lenov, but their romance ended with her decision to move to the United States in the mid-1990s.
Emigration and Later Career
In Seattle, Kambarova embarked on a successful career in modeling, capitalizing on her exotic beauty. She also pursued personal happiness and eventually found it, creating a family and building a blissful life away from the spotlight.
Today, Kambarova is a retired actress, living in Maryland with her husband. Her adult daughter, Polina, is a successful artist and costume designer. Kambarova remains a private person, content to live a peaceful life outside the public eye.
