The Genesis of D.I.V.
In 1987, the rock band D.I.V. emerged with Sergei Taidakov on vocals and Viktor Lemkov on guitar. Soon after, Dmitry Kozhin (bass) and Mark Yusha (drums) joined their ranks.
Early Success and Demo Recordings
The band embarked on intense rehearsals, performances, and the creation of their demo album, "Dyavolskiy Shabash." Released in 1988 under their own label, DIV-Studio, it showcased their raw energy.
Line-up Changes and New Beginnings
Following a series of concerts and festival appearances, Yusha and Kozhin left D.I.V. in 1990. Their replacements were Viktor Kolganov (bass) and Igor Ermakov (guitar), formerly of "Adapter." In 1991, Sergei Podrezenko took over as the drummer.
The Golden Years
1992 marked the pinnacle of D.I.V.'s career. With their album "Mein Kampf" recorded at SNC-Studio and released on vinyl, they embarked on tours across Russia, earning top spots at festivals.
Further Line-up Changes and Studio Focus
In 1994, Kolganov was replaced by Daniil Zakharenkov on bass. This lineup released the live album "Noch Dlinnikh Nozhey" in 1995, after which the venue burned down. Lemkov left the band the following year, marking a shift towards a studio-oriented approach.
Departure of Key Members and Session Musicians
In 1997, Zakharenkov and Podrezenko joined E.S.T., leaving D.I.V. with only Taidakov and Ermakov. They continued recording but mostly appeared live with session musicians. A brief reunion occurred at the "E.S.T.-fest" in 1998, featuring their original lineup.
Live Albums and a Tribute Compilation
In 1999, D.I.V. released the live album "Genotsid," spanning songs from 1990 to 1999. This was followed by a series of albums in 2001: "Beshenye Psy," "Oboreten," and "Zabityi Geroy," a ballad compilation.
A Retrospective and Enduring Legacy
In 2002, the double compilation album " ...Esche Zhiv" celebrated the band's 15th anniversary. It collected some of their best songs from 1988 to 2001. Today, D.I.V. primarily focuses on studio recording, with their last album being "Mertvaya Golova" released in 2003.
