Donald Joseph Cotrona, better known by his stage name D.J. Cotrona, was born in Wallingford, Connecticut in 1980. After graduating high school, he enrolled in law school at a university in Boston, the academic hub of the United States.

Law to Drama

During his summer internship in law, Cotrona realized that he had no desire to practice law or even interact with lawyers. He transferred to the drama department, but after his first year, he traveled to Los Angeles to visit a friend and never returned to college.

Struggles and Breakthrough

Determined to pursue acting, Cotrona landed minor roles in low-budget television series. He narrowly missed out on a role in the popular show "The O.C." before being cast in the leading role of "Skin." The Romeo and Juliet-inspired series, which featured Cotrona as the son of a wealthy politician in love with a porn magnate's daughter, was canceled after three episodes due to low ratings.

Film and Television Career

In 2005, Cotrona starred in the poorly received horror film "Venom." He also appeared in the drama "Love Is the Drug." The following year, he landed a role in the television series "Windfall." Cotrona's high-profile role as Noodles in the Nicholas Sparks adaptation "Dear John" marked a significant breakthrough in his career.
