Early Life and Education

Jumber Lezhava, a Georgian traveler and sportsman, was born on July 23, 1939, in Tbilisi. He spent most of his life in the city of Rustavi, where he graduated from the Tbilisi Polytechnic Institute in 1966, majoring in electrical engineering.

Overcoming and Achieving

In 1987, after undergoing a major surgery, Lezhava developed a personal exercise regime that helped him regain his health. Inspired by his recovery, he established several world records for push-ups and entered the Guinness Book of Records between 1990 and 1992, later improving them until 2001.

Around the World on Two Wheels

Remarkably, from August 13, 1993, to November 3, 2003, Lezhava embarked on a remarkable cycling expedition around the globe. Over the course of 3333 days, he traversed 264,000 kilometers, cycling through 234 countries and dependencies, visiting Antarctica twice. His journey included documenting his experiences with over 50,000 photographs, 200 hours of video footage, and a 7000-page diary.

Recognition and Honors

Lezhava's achievements were widely recognized. He received numerous state awards, including the Order of Vakhtang Gorgasali, First Degree, and the State Prize of Georgia. In 1993, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia bestowed him with the title "Diplomat Traveler." Additionally, UNESCO honored him with the "Sportsman for Peace" diploma in 1999. In 2002, he was named "Man of the Year" in Georgia and received national awards.

Later Years and Legacy

In his later years, Lezhava dedicated himself to teaching and community work. He passed away on July 25, 2014, from a stroke. Lezhava's extraordinary life as an adventurer, sportsman, and humanitarian serves as an inspiration to this day. His records, travels, and contributions to his nation and the world continue to be remembered and celebrated.
