Early Life and Background

Dmitry Belov was born on October 13 (26), 1900, in the village of Filisovo, Kostroma Governorate, Russia (present-day Rodnikovsky District, Ivanovo Oblast). In his youth, he worked as a shepherd and later in a factory until the Soviet era.

Red Army Service and Literary Beginnings

During the Soviet regime, Belov served in the Red Army as a commander. In the 1920s, he worked briefly for the Ivanovo-Voznesensk newspaper "Smychka" and published in various magazines.

"Worker Songs" and "May in the Heart"

In 1920, Belov's poetry cycle "Worker Songs" was published in the literary collection "Na Perelome." This cycle celebrated the factory and its transformative power. In 1927, his collection "May in the Heart" was released in Moscow, featuring poems that extolled the countryside and anticipated its modernization.

Friendship with Sergei Yesenin

Belov was a close acquaintance of the renowned poet Sergei Yesenin. They exchanged letters for several years, and Belov's poetry was influenced by Yesenin's work. After Yesenin's passing in 1925, Belov published a poignant poem in his memory.

Illness and Legacy

Belov's health deteriorated in 1926, and he sought treatment in both Ivanovo and Leningrad without success. He passed away on April 4, 1942, in Kostroma and was buried in the hospital cemetery. Despite the loss of his letters from Yesenin, Belov's literary contributions remain as a testament to his talent and connection to the rural and industrial life of his time.
