Early Life and Education
Dmitry Alexandrovich Koposov was born on September 28, 1925, in Totma, Vologda Oblast. At the age of five, he moved with his parents to Veliky Ustyug, where he spent his childhood and youth.
Military Career
World War II and Officer Training:In January 1943, Koposov was drafted into the Red Army and sent to the Pukhovich Infantry School, which had been relocated to Veliky Ustyug. He exhibited exceptional ability and discipline, graduating in February 1944 as a Junior Lieutenant.
Post-War Service:
From 1945 to 1948, Koposov served as a platoon commander in the Belomorsky Military District. His innovative approach to training and his attention to detail earned him recognition and rewards.
Military Engineering Academy
In 1948, Koposov was selected to attend the V.V. Kuibyshev Military Engineering Academy, where he excelled in the military construction program. Upon graduation in 1954, he was assigned to the 1st Army of the Moscow Air Defense District.
Leningrad Air Defense Army
In 1954, Koposov requested a transfer to the 6th Special Leningrad Air Defense Army, where he embarked on a highly productive career. He rose through the ranks, becoming the Chief of Engineering Service in 1964.
Construction of Special Structures
During the period from 1955 to 1973, Koposov played a vital role in the construction of specialized air defense structures to protect Leningrad and the northwestern borders of the USSR. His expertise and dedication were instrumental in the successful completion of these critical projects.
Recognition and Awards
Koposov's unwavering commitment to engineering excellence was recognized with numerous awards, including the Laureate of the USSR Council of Ministers Prize (1973) and the Veteran of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
