Biography of Dmitry Korchinsky

Dmitry Korchinsky is a Ukrainian political figure, a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine in 2004, and the president of the Institute for Regional Policy Issues and Modern Political Science. He was born on January 22, 1964, in Kiev.

Early Years and Education

After finishing school, Korchinsky entered the Kiev Technological Institute of Food Industry in 1981. However, in 1984, he left the institute and was conscripted into the army a year later. Following his two-year military service, Korchinsky enrolled in Kiev University but left the university in the same year to pursue a career in politics.

Political Activism

From 1987 to 1988, Korchinsky actively participated in the Ukrainian Helsinki Union, the first legal anti-Soviet organization in the USSR. He was also a member of the Ukrainian Cultural Club and one of the founders of the Union of Independent Ukrainian Youth.

In the summer of 1990, Korchinsky became one of the initiators of the Ukrainian Interparty Assembly, which laid the groundwork for the right-radical party UNA-UNSO. The following year, he led the paramilitary wing of this organization. In 1992, Korchinsky volunteered to fight in Transnistria. On November 22 of the same year, he participated in the by-elections for the Ukrainian Parliament from the single-mandate electoral district № 13, but he did not succeed in entering the parliament, ranking fourth out of six candidates.

Party Formation and Media Career

In March 1994, Korchinsky ran again as a candidate for the Verkhovna Rada, this time from the Vatutinsky single-mandate electoral district (№ 2). However, he suffered another defeat, receiving only 9.87% of the votes (third place out of 24 candidates). In November 1997, Korchinsky clashed with the leadership of UNA-UNSO and left the political party. In March 1999, he founded his own political party, the All-Ukrainian Political Party "Brotherhood" (officially registered only in August 2005), and the Institute for Regional Policy Issues and Modern Political Science, of which he is still the head.

From 2001 to 2004, Korchinsky hosted television programs such as "Pro et contra" on TVT channel, as well as "Odnoako" and "Dvoynoe dokazatelstvo" on 1+1 channel.

Presidential Election and Current Activities

In 2004, Korchinsky ran for the presidency of Ukraine. He received 49,641 votes (0.17%), securing the tenth place out of 24 candidates. Currently, Korchinsky is engaged in analytical activities at his institute.

In 1998, Korchinsky published a collection of poems called "Philosophy of Confusion" and two books of political essays - "War in the Crowd" and "Authoritarian Alternative."
