Early Career

Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, Dmytro Zhdankov began his football journey at local club Metalist Kharkiv's youth academy in 1998. He spent four years there, honing his skills as a goalkeeper.

Professional Debut

Zhdankov made his professional debut with Metalist-2 in Ukraine's second-tier league in 2000. He subsequently joined Hazovyk-SKhD, where he played for four years and amassed over 100 appearances.

Return to Metalist

In 2008, Zhdankov returned to Metalist. Initially the third-choice goalkeeper behind Ihor Bazhan and Oleksandr Horyainov, he ascended to the starting lineup in 2010 due to Horyainov's injury. He made his Ukrainian Premier League debut against Dynamo Kyiv, but his performance was marred by several conceded goals.

Club Hopping

Despite his shaky start in the top flight, Zhdankov remained with Metalist for three more years, primarily playing for the reserve team. In 2011, he had a brief stint with the amateur club SMM before joining Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine's First League.

International Career

Zhdankov represented Ukraine at the youth international level, making one appearance for the under-19 team between 2002 and 2003.
