Early Life and Club Career

Adolf Henri van Kol, known as Dolph van Kol, was born on August 2, 1902, in Amsterdam. His football career began at Sport Amsterdam before he moved to 't Gooi in Hilversum. In 1924, van Kol joined the legendary Ajax Amsterdam.

Ajax Success and Retirement

As an Ajax player, van Kol made 175 appearances and scored 25 goals. He was instrumental in the club's Eredivisie triumphs in 1931 and 1932. At the age of 30, van Kol retired from professional football.

International Career

Debut and Olympic Participation

Van Kol made his international debut for the Netherlands on October 25, 1925, in a match against Denmark. He represented the Netherlands at the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics, playing three games before the team was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Uruguay.

Goalscoring Debut and Captaincy

He scored his first international goal in a 1-1 draw with Belgium on November 4, 1928. Van Kol served as captain in seven matches for the Netherlands, earning 33 caps and scoring four goals. His last appearance for the national team came in 1931 against Belgium, where he scored in a 4-2 defeat.

Coaching Career

Ajax Success During World War II

During World War II, van Kol coached Ajax Amsterdam from 1942 to 1945. Under his leadership, the club won the Dutch Football Cup in 1943. He was succeeded by Englishman Jack Reynolds.

Personal Life

Family and Relationships

Van Kol was a bank employee. He married twice. His first wife, Hendrika Gertröjda Kobussen, died at the young age of 30 in 1937. In October 1937, he married Maria Johanna Schenk. He had four children from his first marriage: a son and three daughters.
