Dominique Ariane Swain was born on August 12, 1980, in Malibu, California. Her father, David Swain Sr., was an electrical engineer, and her mother, Cindy Swain, raised Dominique and her siblings. Dominique attended Malibu High School and excelled in both academics and the arts.

At the age of 12, Dominique got her first job in Hollywood as a stand-in for Quinn Culkin in the film "The Good Son" (1993). Her breakthrough role came in 1995 when she auditioned for and won the lead role in the film adaptation of Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Lolita." The film was released in 1997 and garnered critical acclaim, establishing Dominique as a talented young actress.

Following her success in "Lolita," Dominique went on to star in a series of films where she portrayed the titular characters.
