Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of Moldova
Dorin Recean is a Moldovan politician who has served as Prime Minister of Moldova since February 16, 2023.
Early Life and Education
Recean was born on March 17, 1974, in Dondușeni, Moldova. He graduated from the Academy of Economic Education of Moldova in 1996 with a degree in law in international business management. In 2000, he earned an MBA from the Belgian branch of Newport University. He is fluent in Russian, English, and French.
Career in Business and Government
Prior to entering government, Recean worked as a consultant, project manager, and program director at the Agency for Enterprise Restructuring from 1995 to 2002. He then held management positions in the TeleMedia Group and Concernul Milenium Grup from 2002 to 2010.
In 2010, Recean was appointed Deputy Minister of Information Technology and Communications. He played a key role in implementing biometric passports, a step towards visa liberalization between Moldova and the European Union.
In 2012, he became Minister of Internal Affairs. He was the first civilian to hold this position in Moldova. He oversaw significant reforms within the ministry.
From 2016 to 2022, Recean worked as a consultant for various international organizations, specializing in data analysis.
Appointment as Prime Minister
On February 10, 2023, President Maia Sandu nominated Recean for the position of Prime Minister. On February 16, Parliament voted to confirm his appointment and approve his proposed government.
