Early Life and Family

Dorji Wangmo was born into a noble family in Bhutan as the second daughter of Yab Ugyen Dorji and Yum Thuji Zam. Her father was a descendant of the Uma and Speech reincarnations of Bhutan's founder, Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. She had four sisters and two brothers.

Marriage to King Jigme Singye Wangchuck

Along with three of her sisters, Dorji Wangmo married King Jigme Singye Wangchuck in 1979. The sisters became the king's four queens.

Education

Dorji Wangmo received her education in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India.

Philanthropy and Advocacy

As one of the king's queens, Dorji Wangmo has played a significant role in supporting the people of Bhutan. She is the founder and chairperson of the Tarayana Foundation, which provides medical, educational, and social assistance to underserved communities in remote areas.

Her Majesty has also authored a book titled "Treasures of the Thunder Dragon: A Portrait of Bhutan," showcasing the country's beauty and heritage. She is also the president of Sherubtse College.

Family Life

Dorji Wangmo has two children. Her brother, Sangay Ngedup, is a prominent politician who has held various government positions.
