Douglas Crockford
Douglas Crockford is an American programmer known for his significant contributions to the development of the JavaScript language, creation of the JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data format, and authorship of various JavaScript-related tools.
Early Career
In 1980, Crockford purchased an Atari 8-bit computer and created the game "Galahad and the Holy Grail" for the Atari Program Exchange (APX). This achievement led to his employment at Atari. After Warner Communications sold the company, he moved to National Semiconductor.
Work at Lucasfilm and Paramount
In 1984, Crockford joined Lucasfilm and subsequently Paramount Pictures. Alongside Randy Farmer and Chip Morningstar, he co-founded Electric Communities and served as its CEO from 1994 to 1995. Crockford also contributed to the development of the E programming language.
State Software and JSON
In 2001, Crockford became CTO of State Software (also known as Veil Networks). There, he developed the JSON data format based on existing JavaScript constructs, offering a lightweight alternative to XML. He registered the json.org domain in 2002 and published the format's specification on the website. The format gained official recognition as RFC 4627 in July 2006.
