Born on June 30, 1941, in Melbourne, Australia, Douglas Wood excelled in engineering. He spent many years in California, USA, working for Bechtel Corporation before establishing his own successful business.
Kidnapping in Iraq
In 2005, Wood traveled to Iraq for a lucrative reconstruction project. However, his mission took a tragic turn when he was abducted by Iraqi insurgents in late spring. He became the first Australian to be held captive in Iraq.
Hostage Crisis
The kidnappers released a video demanding the withdrawal of US, UK, and Australian troops from Iraq. Wood appeared battered and surrounded by armed militants, signaling the gravity of his situation. For 47 terrifying days, Wood endured captivity, fearing for his life yet clinging to the hope of rescue.
Release and Recovery
