Early Life and Career
Dragan Dalipagić, a Serbian professional basketball player, was born in Sarajevo, Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina) on October 27, 1951. He began his basketball career in 1971 as a member of Partizan Belgrade, where he played until 1980.
During his military service from 1978 to 1979, Partizan reigned as a formidable force in European basketball, securing the Korać Cup title in 1978. Dalipagić's exceptional performance earned him the recognition of European Basketball Player of the Year three times, in 1977, 1978, and 1980.
Club Career
After his departure from Partizan, Dalipagić continued his career internationally, playing for teams in Italy and Spain. He concluded his playing career with Crvena Zvezda in 1991. Throughout his career, Dalipagić averaged over 30 points per game, with an astounding 43 points per game in the 1981/1982 season.
International Success
As part of the Yugoslavian national team, Dalipagić appeared in 243 games and participated in numerous international tournaments. He achieved significant success, winning the Olympic gold medal in 1980, the World Championship in 1978, and three European Championships.
Later Career
Upon retiring as a player, Dalipagić transitioned into coaching, leading teams such as Gorizia (1992-1996), Skopje (1997-1998), and Astra Banka Belgrade (2000-2001). He also served as manager for Crvena Zvezda from 1998 to 1999 and Atlas from 2003 to 2006. Currently, Dalipagić holds a position on the expert council of the Basketball Federation of Serbia.
