Childhood and Early Career
Dudu Aouate was born on October 17, 1977, in Nazareth Illit, Israel. He began his footballing journey at Maccabi Haifa's youth academy. However, his desire to play regular first-team football led him to join Hapoel Nazareth Illit in the second division.
Israeli Success and International Call-Up
In the 1998/99 season, Aouate helped Hapoel Haifa win the Israeli championship. This triumph earned him a regular spot in the Israeli national team. In 2001, he returned to Maccabi Haifa and played a key role in their championship victory in 2001/02. The following season, Maccabi Haifa made history by reaching the group stages of the UEFA Champions League, where they finished third.
Spanish Adventure
In 2003, Aouate moved to Racing Santander in Spain, where he helped the club avoid relegation from the top flight. In 2006, he joined Deportivo La Coruña.
Success and Controversy at Deportivo
During his time at Deportivo, Aouate's consistent performances earned him eighth place in the Don Balon list of the best La Liga players in the 2006/07 season. However, his relationship with backup goalkeeper Gustavo Munúa soured after Aouate commented that the team was "out of shape" after a defeat. Munúa retaliated by punching Aouate in the eye, requiring stitches. The club suspended both goalkeepers without taking sides.
Career Resurgence and Mallorca
Aouate eventually returned to the Deportivo lineup and helped the team avoid relegation, even securing a UEFA Cup spot. Despite his impressive form, he departed the club in early 2009 and signed for Mallorca. Under his stewardship, the islanders rose from 19th place to a top-ten finish.
International Recognition
Aouate was Israel's first-choice goalkeeper until 2013.Post-Retirement and Club Management
In August 2014, Aouate retired from playing and purchased shares in Mallorca, becoming the club's General Manager. However, he resigned from this position in October 2014.
