Duane De Rosario: A Canadian Legend
Youth CareerDuane De Rosario's football journey began in 1997 when he signed with Toronto Lynx of the A-League. However, he soon joined German club Zwickau, playing in the 2. Bundesliga. After one season, De Rosario returned to North America, joining Richmond Kickers in 1999.
Club Career
San Jose EarthquakesIn 2001, De Rosario joined San Jose Earthquakes, where he became an integral part of their MLS Cup triumph that year, scoring the golden goal in the final and earning the MVP award. He continued to excel with the Earthquakes, contributing to their second MLS Cup victory in 2003.
Houston Dynamo
In 2006, De Rosario moved to Houston Dynamo, where he played a key role in their MLS Cup win that year. The following year, Dynamo again won the title, and De Rosario was named the MLS Cup MVP, becoming the first player to win the award twice.
Toronto FC
In 2008, De Rosario was traded to Toronto FC, his hometown club. He became the team's captain in 2010 and led them to several impressive seasons, including a berth in the Eastern Conference final in 2011.
Return to the US
In 2011, De Rosario had brief stints with New York Red Bulls and D.C. United, winning the MLS MVP and Golden Boot awards in the latter. He then returned to Toronto FC in 2013, where he helped them win the Canadian Championship in 2014.
International Career
De Rosario is Canada's all-time leading scorer, with 22 goals in 82 appearances. He played a key role in Canada's victory at the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup and was named Canadian Player of the Year four times.
