Biography of Edgar Bagdasaryan
Edgar Ernestovich Bagdasaryan is an Armenian film director, actor, producer, and screenwriter. He was born on March 8, 1964, in the capital of the Armenian SSR, Yerevan.
Early Life and Education
After completing high school, Bagdasaryan enrolled in the Yerevan Veterinary Institute, which he successfully graduated from in 1985.
Career
In 1986, Bagdasaryan was appointed as the director of "Armconcert" (the director of the Armenian State Concert and State Estrada), a position he held until 1987. Just a year later, in 1988, he became the assistant director of both the Ayk and Armenfilm studios, and soon after, he became the director of both studios.
In 1990, Bagdasaryan made his directorial debut with a short fiction film called "Games." In 1997, he directed the feature film "Black Wall," followed by the documentary film "Land of Sacred Rites" in 2001. In 2005, he directed the feature film "Mariam."
In early 2008, with the suggestion and direct involvement of the clergyman Father Mesrop Aramyan, Bagdasaryan began working on the documentary film "From Ararat to Zion," which was completed on September 22, 2009. The film won the award for "Best European Documentary Film of the Year" at the Swansea Bay Film Festival on June 3, 2010, held in the United Kingdom. Two days later, on June 5, 2010, Bagdasaryan was awarded the Order of Mesrop Mashtots by a special decree from the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic for his contribution to the creation of the film.
