Early Life and Club Career
Edgardo Bauza, a former Argentine footballer turned coach, was born in Granadero Baigorria, Argentina. He spent the majority of his playing career as a defender for Rosario Central, where he made 310 appearances and scored an impressive 80 goals. This remarkable achievement makes him one of the most prolific defenders in football history. Bauza's contributions helped Rosario Central to two Argentine Primera División championships: the 1980 Torneo Nacional and the 1986-87 season.
International Career
Representing Argentina on the international stage, Bauza was part of the team that reached the final of the 1990 FIFA World Cup, eventually finishing as runners-up.
Coaching Career
After hanging up his boots, Bauza transitioned into coaching. He managed various clubs in Argentina, Peru, and Ecuador, including Vélez Sarsfield, Colón, Sporting Cristal, and LDU Quito. With LDU Quito, he achieved notable success, winning the 2007 Ecuadorian Serie A championship and the 2008 Copa Libertadores, the club's first ever continental title.
Return to Argentina and Brazil
In 2013, Bauza briefly stepped away from football but returned shortly after to take charge of San Lorenzo. Under his leadership, San Lorenzo triumphed in the 2014 Copa Libertadores, a historic first for the club. In 2015, Bauza embarked on a new challenge by becoming the head coach of Brazilian giants São Paulo FC.
National Team Successes
August 1, 2016, marked a pivotal moment in Bauza's career as he was appointed as the manager of the Argentina national team. His tenure was short-lived, with Argentina struggling to achieve positive results. After 8 matches, he was dismissed from his post on April 11, 2017.
Later Coaching Roles
Despite his departure from the Argentina national team, Bauza's coaching journey continued. He took the helm of the United Arab Emirates national team in May 2017, followed by a brief stint with the Saudi Arabian national team.
