Early Life and Education

Yerghozhin Yedil Yerghozhaevich was born in the village of Yekpendy, Kazakhstan, and went on to graduate with honors from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Kazakh State University in 1963.

Academic Career

Yerghozhin pursued a distinguished academic career, obtaining a Doctor of Chemical Sciences degree in 1974 and professorship in 1978. He held positions of Chair of the Department of Chemistry of High-Molecular Compounds (1980-88), Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Pro-Rector, and Rector of Kazakh University.

Research and Achievements

As a renowned chemist, Yerghozhin specialized in ion exchange chemistry and membrane technology. He developed innovative methods for synthesizing and regulating ion exchangers and created new electrodialysis desalination plants and concentrators that were implemented in mass production. Moreover, he founded a novel scientific direction focused on the synthesis of selective sorbents based on crown compounds.

Honors and Awards

Yerghozhin's contributions to science earned him the title of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan (1989) and Academician of the New York Academy of Sciences (1994). He was recognized as a Merited Science Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1984 and received the State Prize in 1982.

In addition to his work as Director of the Institute of Chemical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Yerghozhin was Vice-President of the academy from 1994. He received the Academician S. I. Vavilov Medal in 1991 for his exceptional contributions to scientific knowledge and humanitarian efforts.

International Recognition

Yerghozhin's scientific achievements were celebrated internationally. In 1995, he was awarded the Gold Medal and Diploma at the 8th International Festival of Science in Tehran, Iran, for his advancements in ion exchange chemistry and membrane technology.

Political and Social Involvement

Beyond his scientific endeavors, Yerghozhin was elected as a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR and chaired the Standing Commission on Science and Technology from 1986 to 1990. He was also listed in the Golden Book of Honor of Kazakhstan in 1976.

Yerghozhin actively participated in international scientific collaborations and negotiations on joint research projects, representing Kazakhstan in China (1989, 1993), Germany (1989), France (1989, 1993), and Switzerland (1993).
