Early Life and Education
Edsilia Francisca Rombley was born on February 13, 1978, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her parents were migrants from the Antilles, and after several years of marriage, they divorced. Edsilia grew up in Lelystad with her brother and sister, attending Laetare Primary School, Rietlanden Secondary School, and MBO 't Roer College.
Musical Career
At the age of 17, Edsilia began her singing career by forming the group Dignity with Graciënne Gorré, Karima Lemghari, and Susan Haps. Two years later, she decided to pursue a solo career.
Eurovision
Edsilia's breakthrough came in 1998 when she represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. With the song "Hemel en Aarde" ("Heaven and Earth"), she achieved fourth place, the best result for the country since 1975. In 1999, she announced the Netherlands' votes at the contest, and in 2007, she competed again with "On Top of the World," placing 21st. Edsilia also announced the Dutch votes in 2015 and 2021.
Personal Life
Edsilia married composer and musician Tjeerd Oosterhuis in 2006. They have two daughters, Imani and Aisa-Lynn Rosa. Edsilia's sister-in-law, Trijntje Oosterhuis, is also a renowned singer.
Collaborations and Other Notable Performances
Edsilia has embarked on various musical ventures throughout her career. In 2004, she toured with jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap, performing her hits with new arrangements. In 2014, she joined the collective Ladies of Soul, alongside Trijntje Oosterhuis, Berget Lewis, Glennis Grace, and Candy Dulfer.
