Early Life and Education
Eduard Palchys, a prominent Belarusian blogger and activist, was born on October 28, 1990, in Lida, Belarus. From a young age, he displayed a keen interest in history, particularly adventure and historical novels.
Palchys' academic achievements were notable. He participated in the restoration of Ignacy Domeyko's estate, earning recognition in the publication of the Society of Belarusian Language. In high school, he excelled in the "What? Where? When?" competition, earning a second-degree diploma and a monetary award from the presidential special fund. He also received the President of Belarus Special Fund for Social Support of Gifted Children.
In 2008, Palchys enrolled in the Faculty of History at Belarusian State University. However, in 2013, two months before graduation, he withdrew from the university. He later cited the perceived irrelevance of the diploma as his reason.
Activism and John Silver
In 2014, Palchys created the website 1863x.com under the anonymous pseudonym John Silver. The site published provocative articles on Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia. The Belarus Association of Journalists identified the website's primary audience as social media users interested in historical and patriotic topics.
Political Arrests and Imprisonment
On September 27, 2020, Palchys was arrested for 30 days of detention. However, he was not released and was accused of organizing mass riots. Belarusian human rights organizations recognized him as a political prisoner.
During Palchys' detention, his wife Viktoria gave birth to their daughter Emilia in December 2020. Palchys' charges remain pending.
