Early Life and Education

Edvard Mirzoyan, a renowned Soviet and Armenian composer, was born on May 12, 1921, in Gori, Georgia. He completed his musical education at the Yerevan State Conservatory in 1941.

Teaching and Musical Leadership

Mirzoyan's teaching career began in 1945 as an instructor at a music school in Yerevan. He furthered his studies in Moscow from 1946 to 1948 at the music studio within the Cultural House of the Armenian SSR. Upon his return to Yerevan, he became a professor at the Yerevan State Conservatory in 1948.

Mirzoyan's influence extended beyond teaching. He served as the responsible secretary of the Composers' Union of the Armenian SSR from 1950 to 1952 and the chairman of the Armenian branch of the USSR Music Fund from 1952 to 1956. From 1956 to 1992, he held the prestigious position of chairman of the Composers' Union of the Armenian SSR.

International Recognition and Legacy

Mirzoyan's reputation extended internationally as he was elected president of the International Union of Armenian Composers in 1956, a position he held until 1991. His administrative responsibilities also included serving as secretary of the board of the USSR Composers' Union from 1962.
