Edward Bradford Titchener: Biography of an American Psychologist

Edward Bradford Titchener (January 11, 1867, England - August 3, 1927, USA) was an American psychologist, known as one of the founders of structuralism and a disciple of Wilhelm Wundt. In 1904, he became the organizer of the Society of Experimental Psychologists. Titchener conducted experimental studies on sensations and attention. He authored numerous scientific works, including "Outlines of Psychology" (1898) and "A Textbook of Psychology" (1914). Titchener interpreted the subject of psychology as a system of elementary conscious states (sensations, perceptions, and feelings) from which the entire diversity of mental life is formed. The main method of psychology was analytical introspection, in which the observer participating in the experiment was required to describe the elements of consciousness not in terms of external objects, but in terms of sensations.
