Edward C. Banfield
Early Life and EducationEdward C. Banfield was an American political scientist of the conservative persuasion. He graduated from the University of Connecticut, where he studied English and agriculture.
Academic Career
Banfield taught at the University of Chicago, where he became close to Leo Strauss and Milton Friedman. In 1959, he joined the faculty of Harvard University. Among Banfield's many students was Bruce Kovner.
Political Involvement
Banfield served as an advisor to Republican presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan.
